"It is well. It is well with my soul!"
"It is well. It is well with my soul!"
WHEN YOU PRAY
Consider pausing before you do anything this morning and pray. You might consider using a model to help you pray. A good model is the ACTS model. What models have you used? What are your favorite ways to pray?
A = ADORATION. This is a time where you praise God. You tell him what he already knows, but you still tell him because He loves to hear it from you. When you acknowledge who he is and what he has done, you find yourself in a very humble position. It prepares your heart as you reflect on His greatness. It reminds you of His never-ending presence in your life.
You, Father God, are the Creator of everything that exists, you are sovereign, you are all-knowing, you are all-powerful, you are merciful, you are forgiving, you are the alpha and omega … etc.
Praise the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens. Praise him for his acts of power; praise him for his surpassing greatness. Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and lyre, praise him with timbrel and dancing, praise him with the strings and pipe, praise him with the clash of cymbals, praise him with resounding cymbals. Let everything that has breath praise the LORD. Psalm 150:1-6
C = CONFESSION. This is a time of cleansing. Again, it is a time to acknowledge what God already knows about your sin. He knows what you did, what you did not do and what you are thinking about doing. He knows before you know. There is nothing like confession to cleanse and restore your heart. As you reflect on areas that you did not represent Him, you must repent, turn away from those areas, and turn back to God. Not a day later or week later, but as soon as you become aware of your sin. After you acknowledge that you have sinned, you must confess to God who loves you and made a way for you to be right with Him through faith in His Son, Jesus Christ. If you repented, then you do not own your sin any longer. Your sin does not define you. God has forgiven you, so you should accept His forgiveness. You might have to suffer the consequences of your sin, but you will be free from the shame and guilt that cripples you.
Pause, be still and reflect on your thoughts, your heart, your behaviors, your words, your actions, and your inactions. It does not matter when they occurred. It could have been a minute ago, an hour ago or a day, week, month or year ago. Call out your sin and name it. Nothing cleanses you more than truth. If you told a half truth, then you lied, which makes you a liar or deceiver. If you are angry with someone, then you are carrying hate in your heart. Start by thinking about yesterday. Did you represent God in every situation? Did you bring glory to Him, or did you steal His glory? Speak truth.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9
T = THANKSGIVING. This is a time for you to give thanks. Thank God for everything good and for everything not so good. You can always find some good in everything you are experiencing or going through. Look for the good.
A good place to start is with your relationship with him, with your spouse, with your family, with your friends, with your co-workers, for your job, for sufficient income, for success, for failure, for your repentance, for your lessons, for your weaknesses, for activities or events that expose your short-comings, for your grandkids, for your gifts and skills, for your temperament, for your patience, for your medical diagnosis, for your service to others, for everything, etc. You will never be able to complete an exhaustive list of what to be thankful for daily.
Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
S = SUPPLICATIONS. Supplications or requests may not seem as important by the time you get here, but God wants you to share them now that your heart has been prepared. He already knows what you need but ask Him and then believe that He can and that He will if it is in accordance with His purposes and His will. It is not a wish list; it is a request that only God can fulfill directly or indirectly through others.
Your requests are about your life. They are about other people’s lives. They are the here and now and they are also the future of many other things. The second-best time to plant a tree is today, the best time was thirty years ago. That is how prayer works. There is no better time to pray than today. The time is now. Then believe.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Philippians 4:6
As you pray today and reflect on who He is and what He has done, allow your heart and mind to be cleansed through repentance and confession, then give Him thanks for every little detail in your life, and finally, align your prayers with His purposes and will and then hang on as you see God reveal Himself in every area of your life.
Let’s represent Him and He will represent us. Let’s bring God the glory in all we do.
Start your day with prayer and believing!
